Spartans Split Prairie Weekend
TWU tops Saskatchewan 1-0

saskatoon, Saskatchewan – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies were unable to repeat yesterday's 1-0 victory over the No. 1 UBC Thunderbirds, as the Dogs went down 1-0 to the CIS number-six ranked Trinity Western University Spartans.

“Pretty good performance today, especially with a number of players out of the starting lineup,” said TWU head coach Al Alderson.

With the wind in their faces, the Spartans got on the scoring board early in the game. On a cross from Nick Perugini (Montreal PQ, 3rd yr), Justin Farenik ( Calgary AB , 1st yr) headed the ball into the back of the Huskie net to put the Spartans up 1-0. The goal would be the only one in the game and the game-winner for the Spartans.

At the end of the second half, the Spartans took a free kick from outside the 18 that slipped through Derrick Ng's ( Saskatoon , 1st yr) gloves, but the goal was disallowed.

The Huskies managed 13 shots in the game, while the Spartans had 15. It was a very physical game, with each team wracking up 20 fouls. The Huskies had two corner kicks, and the Spartans had only one. The Huskies were handed two yellow cards, and the Spartans three, all in the second half.

The win improves the Spartans record to 4-2-4, while the Huskies drop to 3-8. Trinity Western heads home to host Lethbridge on Oct. 27 and Calgary on Oct. 29. Saskatchewan will play their final league game on Oct. 30 at Alberta .
