Expected to suit-up this fall for the three time Canada West champion Spartans are forward Garrett Traversy (White Rock, B.C.), midfielder Cardin Davis (Salt Spring Island, B.C.) and defender Branden McLean (Delta, B.C.).

Despite the heartbreak at Nationals, 2007 was still another very successful season for head coach Al Alderson and the Trinity Western University Spartans men’s soccer team as they finished with a 16-4-1 record, winning both the conference regular season crown, and their third straight Canada West gold medal. TWU was the top ranked team in the country for three straight weeks early in the season, and were ranked third in the CIS heading into the postseason.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s soccer team set a single game attendance record in their recent match with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Spartans had well over 2,000 spectators watch their annual match with the Whitecaps. The 2,276 spectators eclipsed the previous TWU record of 1,150 which they set three years ago, April 3, 04 against the Whitecaps.

SEATTLE – The Trinity Western University men’s soccer team had a solid showing in Saturday’s matches against top NCAA Div. 1 tournament teams the University of Washington and Portland University Saturday afternoon in Seattle, Wash. SPARTANS WORK WITH UNION GOSPEL MISSION TO AID HOMELESS

VANCOUVER - On the weekend of December 1, several members of the Trinity Western University's men's soccer team teamed up with the Union Gospel Mission and other TWU students to serve a good cause. The students helped the Union Gospel Mission with social work on Vancouver's East Side, near East Hastings and Princess Ave, where most of Vancouver's homeless live.

TWU'S NICK PERUGINI NAMED CANADA WEST PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Trinity Western Spartans captain Nicola Perugini is the Canada West Player of the Year. A fifth-year midfielder from Montreal, Perugini was a leader and a motivator with a fantastic ability to distribute the ball and a fearless attitude to defend and stop the other team. Well-decorated in his CIS career, he has been a Canada West all-star all five years of competition, a CIS all-Canadian three times and made the all-tournament team at Nationals in 2005.

This weekend’s final four has the No. 1 Trinity Western University Spartans facing the No. 4 University of Alberta Golden Bears at 6:30 p.m. and the No. 2 University of British Columbia Thunderbirds facing the No. 3 University of Victoria Vikes at 4 p.m. on Friday. The winners will play in the Gold Medal match on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., while the losers will play for Bronze on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Since entering the CIS in 2001 the Trinity Western University men’s soccer team has made a steady improvement year-to-year. The only way for the two-time Canada West champion’s to improve on last year is to win this year’s CIS National Championship. The Spartans won the Canada West title in 2005 and finished third at the CIS Championship and last season after winning their second CW title they added a CIS silver medal after falling 1-0 to Alberta in the gold medal match.
