FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
POGUE NAMED CANADA WEST MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
EDMONTON – Trinity Western fourth-year soccer forward Nathan Pogue scored two goals this weekend to help lead the No. 3-ranked Spartans to a win and tie to keep TWU unbeaten in four games.
Pogue scored in the 86th minute on Friday to give the Spartans a 1-1 tie with the Calgary Dinos (1-2-1) and fend off a potential loss. The history major followed up on Saturday in extra time to give the Spartans a 3-1 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns (0-4-0) and move the Spartans to 2-0-2 on the season.
The two goals give Pogue 29 career goals as a Spartan and puts him within three of the TWU career scoring record of 32, which is held by former Spartan Adrian Kekec (’09).
At 2-0-2 the CIS silver medalist Spartans are in second place in Canada West. The Spartans head back on the road this week with games against Fraser Valley (1-3-0) and No. 4 Victoria (3-0-1).
The Spartans will return to the CIS championship for the fifth straight season , this year as hosts on Nov. 12-15.
