SPARTANS FINK EARNS CANADA WEST HONOURS
LANGLEY, British Columbia –Tuesday morning Canada West announced that TWU goal keeper Andrew Fink and Saskatchewan striker Elizabeth Hudon were named Canada West male and Female Athletes of the Week.
Male: Andrew Fink, GK, Trinity Western (soccer)
Trinity Western University keeper Andrew Fink helped the No. 7 Spartans get their first points of the season by posting back-to-back shutouts in this weekend’s matches. The third year business student stopped three shots in TWU’s 2-0 win over the University of Victoria on Friday and followed it up with four saves in Saturday’s 3-0 win over the University of the Fraser Valley.
Fink’s seven saves on the weekend move him into top spot on the TWU career saves mark with 160. Fink passes former Spartan Chris Cecil’s (’05) 156 saves. Fink’s two shutouts also put him one behind Cecil at 12 for top spot in the Spartans record book.
The two victories put the Spartans at 2-1-0 and in fifth place in Canada West. TWU will now put their two match winning streak on line as they travel to southern Alberta to take on the University of Lethbridge on Friday, September 25 and the University of Calgary on Sunday, September 26.
Female: Elizabeth Hudon, Striker, Saskatchewan (soccer)
University of Saskatchewan striker Elizabeth Hudon helped the Huskies to a win and a tie this weekend with five goals and two assists.
In Saturday’s 9-0 thumping of the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, the fourth-year Kinesiology student scored three goals and two assists. Her first goal came at the three minute mark on a penalty kick. She also scored the Huskies fourth goal in the 28th minute and the Huskies sixth goal in the 33rd minute. She assisted on the Huskies fifth goal and seventh goal.
On Sunday against the University of Calgary Dinos, Hudon scored both goals in the 2-2 tie. The Prince Albert native’s goals came in the 13th and 56th minutes.
Hudon and the Huskies will travel to B.C. to meet the #1 Trinity Western Spartans and #5 UBC Thunderbirds this weekend.
