SPARTANS PARKER EARNS CANADA WEST HONOURS
LANGLEY, British Columbia –Tuesday morning Canada West announced that TWU forward Danfi Parker and Fraser Valley midfielder Ellen Kuyer were named Canada West male and Female Athletes of the Week.
Male: Danfi Parker, Trinity Western (soccer)
Trinity Western University forward Danfi Parker led the unranked Spartans to a 2-2 tie with the No. 6 University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Friday night at TWU. With the two goals the second year Biblical Studies student now leads the Spartans with six goals on the season.
Parker now sits in second place in Canada West in goals, second in goals per game at 0.75 and fourth in points with seven. He is also tied for the conference lead in shots and shots per game with 28 and 3.5 respectively.
The tie gives the Spartans a 3-2-3 record and places them in fourth place in Canada West with 12 points. TWU will now host the #9 University Calgary Dinos and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in their final home games of the season this Friday and Saturday at TWU.
The victories put the Spartans at 2-1-0 and in fifth place in Canada West. TWU will now put their two match winning streak on line as they travel to southern Alberta to take on the University of Lethbridge on Friday, September 25 and the University of Calgary on Sunday, September 26.
Female: Ellen Kuyer, Fraser Valley (soccer)
UFV Cascades midfielder Ellen Kuyer scored three times in the second half of Saturday’s 4-3 victory over #9 UBC on the road in Vancouver, and it was the fourth-year Business major’s hard work that set up the fourth Fraser Valley goal as well.
In Friday’s tie at #7 Trinity Western, Kuyer created the opportunity that led to the first goal and gave UFV a lead which they held for close to 60 minutes before TWU tied he match.
Kuyer has been a large reason why the fourth-place Cascades are unbeaten in four straight matches against nationally ranked UBC & Trinity Western this regular season.
