SEASON REWIND AND LOOK AHEAD: PART 5 - MEN’S SOCCER

LANGLEY, British Columbia – With a roster full of seniors and plenty of experience on the pitch, the Spartans 2011 men’s soccer season was filled with promise and hope for a return to national prominence. But while Trinity Western put together an impressive regular season – finishing third in Canada West with an 8-4-2 record and being ranked in the CIS Top 10 twice – it all came to a heartbreaking end when the Spartans saw their hopes of a berth in the national championship dashed when they lost to UBC on penalty kicks in the Final Four semifinal.

VICTORIA, British Columbia – Trinity Western men’s soccer defender James Farenhorst was named a Canada West First Team All-Star while goalkeeper Andrew Fink and midfielder Brayden Gant were named to the Second All-Star Team Thursday at the Canada West Final Four pre-tournament banquet in Victoria.
MEN’S SOCCER TO PLAY UBC IN CANADA WEST SEMIFINAL

LANGLEY, British Columbia – After finishing third in the Canada West standings, the Trinity Western men’s soccer team qualified for the playoffs for the eighth time in the last nine years and will play No. 5 ranked UBC in the Final Four semifinal Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Victoria.
WEEKEND PREVIEW: SPARTANS HOST HUSKIES AND ‘BEARS IN MEN’S SOCCER’S FINAL HOMESTAND

LANGLEY, British Columbia – This weekend at Rogers Park the Spartans invite the Huskies and the Golden Bears to Langley, B.C. for the last Spartan home stand of the regular season. The unranked Spartans will seek to regain their earlier form against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday at 7 p.m., and against the University of Alberta on Saturday at 7 p.m. Prior to the men’s Saturday match the TWU men’s and women’s soccer teams will be honouring their graduating senior athletes.
WEEKEND PREVIEW: SPARTANS HOST DINOS AND PRONGHORNS IN MEN’S SOCCER

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans return to their home pitch this weekend to take on the University of Calgary Dinos, a team that stands atop the Canada West standings at this point in the season and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.. The match versus the No. 10 Dinos takes place on Friday, Sept. 30, while the match against the Pronghorns is on Saturday, Oct. 1. Both matches kick-off at 7 p.m. at TWU’s Rogers Field in Langley, B.C.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s soccer team continues its Canada West regular season home slate this weekend as they host No. 2 ranked UBC Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Spartans are coming off an opening weekend split, losing to Fraser Valley Friday but beating Victoria Saturday, and will look to add to their win total against the Thunderbirds.
