FORMER SPARTAN HAMILTON NAMED NASL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

EDMONTON, Alberta –
Former Trinity Western men’s soccer defender Paul Hamilton (Calgary, Alta.), playing with FC Edmonton, was named this past week’s NASL’s (North American Soccer League) defensive Player of the Week.

Hamilton helped his team to a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks Sunday as the Edmonton based squad ended an eight-game winless skid.

The former Spartan centre back, who played for Trinity Western for three years, from 2007-2009, and was named the CIS Player of the Year in 2009, has played in every game this season for FC Edmonton and has been named Man of the Match on several occasions.

Hamilton recently scored his first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Aug. 14.

Hamilton and his teammates, who currently sport an 8-9-5 record, which has them in a tie for fourth place in the eight team league, will travel to Puerto Rico for their next two games as they take on the Islanders Aug. 27 and 30.

The Spartans men’s soccer team is coming off its first preseason trip of the year as they travelled to Oregon and Washington where they played Oregon State, losing 2-0 on Aug.17, Seattle Pacific, winning 1-0 on Aug. 19, and Seattle, winning 3-1 on Aug. 20. Trinity Western’s final two preseason games will both be in Portland against Warner Pacific (Aug. 27) and Concordia (Aug. 28).

Trinity Western will kick off its Canada West campaign at home Sept. 9 against Fraser Valley and Sept. 10 against Victoria. Both games start at 7:00 p.m.
