FINK NAMED CANADA WEST MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western men’s soccer goalie Andrew Fink (Burnaby, B.C.) was named this week’s Canada West male athlete of the week after he posted back-to-back shutout wins on road this past weekend.
Fink made a combined nine saves to lead the Spartans to victories over the University of Alberta in Edmonton and No. 7 University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Sask., helping the Spartans into second place in Canada West at 3-1-1.
The fourth year business student currently leads Canada West in goals against average at 0.60, shutouts with two and is third in save percentage at .842 per cent. Fink has played all 450 minutes for the Spartans this season and has only given up three goals in the five matches.
The Spartans will put their four game unbeaten streak on the line this week when they host the University of Calgary Dinos on Friday and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday.
On the women’s side, Former CIS Championship MVP Robyn Pendleton (Victoria, BC), who scored three goals on the weekend to help her UBC Thunderbirds field hockey team sweep the Canada West-leading Calgary Dinos on the weekend, was named the Canada West female athlete of the week.
On Saturday, Sept. 24th, she scored the winning goal just two minutes into the game. Pendleton then added another in the 25th minute as UBC won 3-0.
The next day, Pendleton added the insurance goal in a 3-1 UBC victory.
