Seattle, Washington – The Trinity Western University men’s soccer team opened the 2005-06 pre-season with a solid 1-0 win over Seattle Pacific University Wednesday night in Seattle, Washington. Fifth year forward, Drew Roddy (Orono, MN) scored the lone goal of the match in the 20th minute to lift the Spartans past the Falcons, who were ranked 25th in last years season ending NSCAA poll.
The game winner came off of a corner kick from third year midfielder Nick Perugini (Montreal, PQ). Perugini lofted the ball into the center of the box where Roddy went high to head the ball into the top right corner of the Falcons’ net.
“We played real well and at times moved the ball better then I have ever seen from a TWU team, it was very pretty to watch,” said TWU Head Coach Al Alderson. “We are still missing a few players, so this was a very good result for us.”
Next up for the Spartans is a double header on August 24 in McMinnville, OR. TWU will play Linfield College at 10 am then match up against Corban College at 3pm. They will have a day off before traveling to Corvallis, OR to play a match with NCAA Div. I Oregon State Beavers on Friday, August 26.
Game Notes: TWU captains Paul Ballard (5th yr, defender, Port Coquitlam, BC) and Lee Ellis (5th yr, defender, Edmonton, AB) sat out the match due to injury...TWU keepers Chris Cecil (5th yr, Abbottsford, BC) - 1st half and Jacob Hanson (5th yr, Powell River, BC) - 2nd half split the shutout...
