SPARTANS AND CASCADES SCORELESS
LANGLEY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University men's soccer team and the visiting University of the Fraser Valley battled to a 0-0 draw Saturday night at TWU's Langley, B.C. campus.
"Our depth got tested tonight and I'm pleased with the way that the young guys responded, particularly the way our back line performed" commented TWU head coach Al Alderson. "The game could have gone either way tonight. We created our chances and were buzzing around their box and we made some fine defensive stops to keep them of the score-sheet."
Both teams went hard at each other and each had quality chances, but neither could find the back of the net. TWU keeper Andrew Kowan (2nd year, Richmond, B.C.) and UFV keeper Kristjan Johannson (North Delta, B.C.) each made some fine plays to keep their respective teams in the contest. "Andrew made a couple of game saving plays for us tonight," commented TWU head coach Al Alderson.
Trinity Western had the slight edge in shots as they out-shot Fraser Valley 10-9.
Next up for the Spartans is a trip to southern Alberta to take on the University of Calgary and the University of Lethbridge on Fri. Oct. 4 and Sat. Oct. 5.
Match Notes: the Spartans did get a ball past the Cascades goal line in the 87th minute, but the goal was called back on a foul against UFV's Johannson...TWU had four corner kicks to UFV's three...
