TWU Spartans (1) vs. the University of Saskatchewan Huskies (2)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SPARTANS FALL TO HUSKIES IN KEG SPRING CUP
VICTORIA - The CIS silver medalist Trinity Western University Spartans fell 2-1 to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in the championship match of the Keg Spring Cup Sunday afternoon in Victoria.
"Saskatchewan came out and played hard and we unfortunately did not have the performance that we were looking for," commented interim head coach Mike Shearon. "We had a few chances late, but overall we did not take care of our opportunities today."
The Huskies erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with a pair of second half goals. The first came in the 56th minute as forward Jerson Barandica-Hamilton (Isla Mujeres, Sask.) slotted a penalty kick after the Spartans were whistled for a foul inside their 18-meter box.
The game-winner came in the 65th minute when Huskies midfielder Stefan Husdal (Regina) headed a well-placed corner from Barandica-Hamilton.
Adrian Kekec (Burnaby, B.C.) opened the scoring for the Spartans in the 36th minute, hammering home a rocket from the corner of the box.
Next up for the Spartans are Western Washington University Vikings and the Gonzaga University Bulldogs on Saturday, April 5 at Whatcom Community College. TWU will play the Zags at 11:20 a.m. and WWU at 12 p.m.
