MARSHALL, VERHOEFF TO PLAY FOR CANADA AT FIVB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Former Trinity Western left side Steven Marshall (Abbotsford, B.C.) and middle Rudy Verhoeff (Calgary) will make their FIVB World Championship debuts this September as they were both named to Canada’s 14-man roster for the 2014 event in Poland.
SCHEERHOORN, SCHRIEMER LEAD CANADA TO U21 NORCECA SILVER

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – Trinity Western opposite Blake Scheerhoorn (Belleville, Ont.) and setter Adam Schriemer (Winnipeg) helped Canada’s men’s junior national team earn a silver medal at the U21 NORCECA (North and Central America and Caribbean) Championship and, in doing so, earned the Canadian side a spot in next year’s FIVB U21 World Championship.

VERHOEFF, MARSHALL NAMED TO CANADA’S WORLD LEAGUE ROSTER

LANGLEY, British Columbia – A pair of former Trinity Western men’s volleyball student-athletes was named to Canada’s 22-man roster for the FIVB Volleyball World League 2014 as both middle Rudy Verhoeff (Calgary) and outside hitter Steven Marshall (Abbotsford, B.C.) made the team.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western men’s volleyball coach Ben Josephson went back to a pair of familiar wells for his latest two recruits as the Spartans coach officially announced the signing of outside hitter Riley Vander Meulen of Edmonton Christian High School and left side/libero Carter Bergen of Winnipeg’s MCBI (Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute), who both are arguably the best graduating players from their respective provinces.
SPARTANS JOSEPHSON AND SCHRIEMER WIN CIS MAJOR AWARDS

CALGARY (CIS) – The Trinity Western University Spartans men’s volleyball team added another CIS coach of the year award and CIS rookie of the year award to their collection Wednesday morning during the CIS All-Canadian Breakfast held at the Best Western Village Park Inn in Calgary. TWU head coach Ben Josephson earned the CIS coach of the year award, while first year setter Adam Schriemer earned the program its second CIS rookie of the year award. In addition to the two major awards the Spartans fifth year middle Lucas Van Berkel and fourth year outside Nick Del Bianco earned first and second team All-Canadian honours.
SPARTANS SEEK THIRD CIS CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOUR YEARS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – After losing in last year’s CIS quarter-finals against Western, the Trinity Western men’s volleyball team will be looking to get back to the top this weekend as the Spartans will be aiming for their third CIS title in four years when the national championship tournament begins Thursday in Calgary.
SPARTANS SEEDED THIRD, WILL OPEN NATIONALS AGAINST WESTERN

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western men’s volleyball team will open the CIS national championship tournament with a chance for redemption as the Spartans will play the very same team that eliminated them from medal contention last year as they will take on Western in the quarter-finals for the second year in a row on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Calgary.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western men’s volleyball setter Adam Schriemer (Winnipeg) was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year and Spartans coach Ben Josephson was named Canada West Coach of the Year while Lucas Van Berkel (Edmonton) and Nick Del Bianco (Surrey, B.C.) were both selected as First Team All-Stars.
