SPARTANS PAST AND PRESENT WIN BEACH VOLLEYBALL NATIONALS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western men’s volleyball, both past and present, proved golden on the sand Sunday as both incoming Spartan Nick Del Bianco (1st year, Surrey, B.C.) and former Spartan Chaim Schalk (Red Deer, Alta.) celebrated national championships in their respective divisions.

Canada shocks Cuba to advance to gold medal final at NORCECA Championships

first year Spartan to be middle Braden Schmidt (Winton, Alb.), produced the biggest upset this week at the NORCECA junior men’s championships as it defeated top-seeded Cuba 22-25, 25-19, 25-7, 25-15. The victory also guarantees a spot for Canada at the 2011 world junior championships in Brazil.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Steven Marshall is hitting the beach this summer and doing so in a big way. The former TWU Spartan from Abbotsford, B.C., who was fourth in Canada West last year with 251 kills in 17 conference matches, is taking his game to the sand this summer and fall as he has joined Ben Saxton to create one of the best beach tandems in the country.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western University’s Nick Del Bianco is set to take on the world. The Surrey, B.C. product, who will join the Spartans this fall, is in Espinho, Portugal for the 2010 FIVB Youth Beach Volleyball U-19 World Championships that run from July 28 – Aug. 1.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – If this past weekend was any indication, the future of the Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team looks seriously bright as five Spartans competed in the 2010 National Team Challenge Cup and two of them were named to the National Junior Team.

LANGLEY, British Columbia - For the men’s volleyball team, the 2010-11 campaign looks to be a voyage of epic proportions. As hosts of the 2011 CIS Championship (March 4-6), the Spartans know where and when their season will end. It’s just a matter of getting to their final destination in peak form. And coach Ben Josephson’s plan is to give this year’s squad plenty of preparation before they step onto the big stage.
