TWU CLOSE AS CALGARY WINS GOLD

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – The No. 7 Trinity Western University Spartans gave everything that they could, but fell just shy as the No. 4 University of Calgary Dinos earned the CIS men’s volleyball gold medal with a hard fought 3-1 win over the Spartans Sunday evening at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, B.C. The thrilling four set 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 27-25 win gives the Dinos their first CIS gold medal since 1993.

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team is peaking at the right time. With no fifth year players the young Spartans are beating the odds every match they play. Tonight they defeated the No. 1 team and previously undefeated Universite Laval Rouge et Or 3-2 in an epic 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23 and 20-18 match at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – The No. 7 Trinity Western University Spartans will have an uphill battle Saturday night in hopes to make it to Sunday’s CIS men’s volleyball gold medal match. In order for the Spartans to make it to the CIS final they will have to get past the top ranked and undefeated Universite Laval Rogue et Or.

EDMONTON – It required weathering a furious charge from the Trinity Western Spartans, but the University of Alberta Golden Bears managed to do just that to claim their third consecutive Canada West men’s volleyball banner with a 3–2 (25–17, 25–21, 23–25, 22–25, 15–9) victory over the Spartans Sunday afternoon at the U of A’s Pavilion.
SPARTANS TO PLAY FOR GOLD-Ball sets school record

EDMONTON – It will seem like old times Sunday afternoon at the University of Alberta Pavilion as the Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team will battle the University of Alberta for the Canada West Championship. The Golden Bears will be going for their third straight championship tomorrow, while the Spartans will be looking to book-end the Bears two championship, with their own two having last won the Canada West title in 2007. TWU and Alberta have also met two times in the CIS gold medal match with the Bears winning 3-2 in 2005 and the Spartans winning 3-0 in 2006.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – This week the No. 7 Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team will open the Canada West Final Four against the No.4 University of Calgary Dinos Saturday afternoon at noon at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. The other semi-final will feature the No. 3 University of Alberta Golden Bears taking on the No. 9 Thompson Rivers University WolfPack at 2 p.m. With all four team having already qualified for the CIS championship next week at TRU in Kamloops, this weekend’s tournament will primarily serve as seeding for next week’s championship.
