Alberta, which has been ranked first in the country all season and has lost only once against CIS competition in 2005-06 (1-3 vs. UBC, Nov. 4), earned the No. 1 seed following its 3-0 win over the Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday night in the Canada West final. The duel was a re-match of last year’s CIS gold medal game, won 3-2 by the Bears.
Alberta will face the host McMaster Marauders on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET in the opening round of the CIS tournament.
Trinity Western will enter the university nationals as the No. 2 seed and will battle No. 7 Queen’s Friday at 3 p.m. The other quarter-final match-ups will see No. 3 Manitoba face-off against No. 6 Laval (1 p.m.), and No. 4 Saskatchewan square off against No. 5 Dalhousie (6 p.m.).
Note: a complete championship preview will follow on Tuesday.
