Spartans Take Timeout -TWU men’s volleyball team visits local children

HAMILTON, Ontario – The Trinity Western University's men’s volleyball team took some time out of their preparations for their third consecutive appearance at the CIS national championship to spend some time with the children at McMaster’s Children’s Hospital Wednesday night in Hamilton, Ont.

The Spartans spent a few hours playing games, delivering gifts and interacting with a number of children who are staying at the hospital.

When asked why the team was taking time out of their preparation for the championship TWU Head Coach Ron Pike responded, “It comes out of our Complete Champion Approach. We feel that community involvement is really important. Sometimes it is tough when you go into a community that you are not familiar with, so you look for opportunities for our students to get involved.”

“We found out that they had a children’s hospital here and I thought that it would be a neat thing for the guys to experience to try and do something for the community that we are involved with for the weekend. This community has obviously done a lot in support of the CIS championship and I think that it is important for us to give something back to this community,” added Pike.

The Spartans will begin championship play Friday afternoon at McMaster University. The match against Queens University is set to start at 3p.m. EST.
