LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western University Director of Athletics Murray Hall is pleased to announce that the Spartans have hired Ben Josephson to become the head coach of the Spartans men’s volleyball team. This year has been a memorable one for Josephson. In addition to being named TWU’s new head coach the TWU alum won the U16 National Championship and was named Volleyball BC’s U16 Coach of the Year.

CALGARY – Josh Howatson finished his career as a Spartan by becoming the most decorated athlete in school history. The fifth year Christianity and Culture student won the school’s first ever BLG award Monday night to give him the CIS Male Athlete of the Year award to go along side of his Canada West Male Athlete of the Year Award, his CIS men’s volleyball player of the year, his Dale Iwanozcko Award recognizing excellence in men’s volleyball, athletics and community involvement and his four CIS national championship medals – which include the 2006 CIS National Championship.

CALGARY (TWU/CIS/BLG) - Doug Mitchell, National Co-Chairman of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) in Calgary and Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced on Tuesday the eight nominees for the 15th Annual BLG Awards, honouring the top Canadian Interuniversity Sport male and female athletes for the year for the 2006-07 season. Included in the four male nominee’s is TWU’s men’s volleyball setter Josh Howatson (Victoria).

Josh Howatson admitted to being a little bit overwhelmed on Thursday morning. Not by the competition that he and his Trinity Western Spartans will face as the defending champs at the 2007 CIS national men’s volleyball championships beginning today in Hamilton, but by being honoured in a way that only one other player in the history of the Canadian university men’s volleyball has ever been.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team will host the NCAA Division I University of Southern California (USC) for two non-conference matches this week. The Trojans and Spartans will play on Friday, November 3 at 7 p.m. at Abbotsford’s MEI’s Middle School’s gym and on Saturday, November 4 at 2 p.m. at TWU.

LANGLEY, British Columbia -The fourth year rightside hitter got Spartans off to a 2-0 start as TWU swept Saskatchewan 3-0 and 3-1 this past weekend in Saskatoon. The 2005 CIS All-Canadian finished the weekend with 23 kills and 10 blocks. Rogalsky was dominating in the Spartans 3-1 win on Saturday finishing the night with 14 kills, 5 blocks and one service ace.

For the past three seasons the Trinity Western University men’s volleyball was always looking to build on the previous year. In 2002-2003 the Spartans made the Canada West playoffs, In 2003-2004 they won CIS bronze, in 2004-2005 they took CIS silver and last season they reached the top winning the CIS National Championship 3-0 over the University of Alberta. So where do you go from the top of the mountain.
