SPARTANS’ MARSHALL WINS BRONZE AT SUMMER GAMES
SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Trinity Western University’s Steven Marshall (Abbotsford, B.C.) along with Team BC teammate Maverick Hatch (Victoria), who plays for Brandon University, won bronze this past weekend at the Canada Summer Games in Summerside, P.E.I.
Team BC placed third with a 21-16, 23-21 win over Team Manitoba. Team BC was relegated to the bronze medal game when they were upset 21-18, 21-15 by Quebec after going 4-0 win pool play.
Ontario’s Reid Hall (Georgetown, Ont.) and Adam Podstawka (Ancaster, Ont.) won gold with 21-14, 21-18 win over Quebec’s Emmanuel Andre-Morin (Montreal) and Karl De Grandpre (Pierreville, Que.).
Marshall will continue playing into the fall as he represents Canada in Blackpool, England at the U21 World Beach Championships September 16-20. Marshall is also playing the 2009 Canadian National Championship this week at Ashbridges’ Bay in Toronto, Aug. 28-30.
The Spartans will begin training for the upcoming season in early September. They open preseason play September 24-26 when they will travel through the Okanagan with matches against the University of Alberta and UBC-Okanagan. They open Canada West conference play October 30 and 31 when they will host UBC for the opening matches at the Langley Event Centre.
