SPARTANS PULL IN MEDALS AT CANADA GAMES
SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Members of the Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team pulled down gold and bronze medals this weekend at the Canada Summer Games in Summerside, P.E.I.
The Spartans Paul Lindemulder (Calgary) and Mikiah Schalk (Red Deer, Alta.) were part of Team Alberta who won the gold medal with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 29-27) win over Team Ontario. While TWU’s Marc Howatson (Victoria), who was captain, Ben Ball (Abbotsford, B.C.), Josh Doornenbal (Langley, B.C.) and Rudy Verhoeff (Langley, B.C.) led Team BC to a bronze medal with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-17) win over Manitoba.
Team Alberta advanced to the gold medal match with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) win over Team BC, while Team Ontario advanced with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-22) win over Team Manitoba.
The Spartans will begin training for the upcoming season in early September. They open preseason play September 24-26 when they will travel through the Okanagan with matches against the University of Alberta and UBC-Okanagan. They open Canada West conference play October 30 and 31 when they will host UBC for the opening matches at the Langley Event Centre.
