SPARTAN VOLLEYBALL RECRUIT CAPS UNFORGETTABLE YEAR

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– It honestly doesn’t get any better than this. For Trinity Western University men’s volleyball recruit Devyn Plett, quite simply, this past year could only be defined as “the perfect season.”

The 6-foot-2 setter, who will join the Spartans this fall, capped off an unbelievable season of achievements on Sunday, May 16, by leading his Winnipeg Strike club team to the U18 National Championship in Abbotsford and, in the process, by being named tournament MVP.

But while winning the national championship and tournament MVP would typically be worthy of a story on its own, for Plett, his performance in Abbotsford was more like the sweetest of cherry’s on top of an already delicious bowl of ice cream.

Plett, who will graduate from Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute in June, also won the club provincial championship, while garnering MVP honours there as well, and he won the Manitoba high school championship with MBCI, where, naturally, he was tournament MVP.

During his high school season, he was MVP at two different tournaments, while also picking up all-star recognition at his team’s home tournament.

He was then selected as the Winnipeg Sun’s #1 ranked player in the province and was the recipient of the Dennis Nord Award, which is a provincial award given to the graduating volleyball player who best demonstrates excellence in academics, athletics and leadership

“It doesn't get better than the year this young man put together,” said Spartans coach Ben Josephson. “He is just another superstar athlete coming to Trinity in a long line of great Spartan setters.”
