TWU SPARTANS AT DOUGLAS COLLEGE TOURNAMENT

SPARTANS SWEEP DOUGLAS TOURNAMENT
NEW WESTMINSTER, British Columbia – This weekend the Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team participated in five matches at the Douglas College tournament. The Spartans finished the tournament with a record of 5-0 and dropped only one set in the weekend tournament.
The Spartans concluded the tournament by defeating the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 3-0 in the final of the tournament, which featured mostly college teams,
“It was a good weekend and all the young guys played all the five matches. With vets filling in where needed,” commented TWU head coach Ben Josephson. “The tournament filled the purpose of why we went into the tournament. We had good performances all around and overall it was really good and I’m happy with where we are.”
The tournament was used primarily to get the rookie Spartans valuable playing time. Playing the entire tournament were TWU rookies Micah Jansen Van Doorn, Nick Del Bianco and Branden Schmidt as well as second year redshirt Derek Thiessen.
TWU finished the tournament defeating Capilano College 3-1, Douglas College 3-0, the University of the Fraser Valley 3-0, Columbia Bible College 3-0 and TRU 3-0.
Next up for the Spartans is the Queen’s University Tournament October 15-17.
