Spiritual development is the strong cornerstone of Spartan athletic excellence. Spartan student-athletes are encouraged to use their athletic superiority as an expresion of the talent that God has given them. Student-athletes are also encouraged to become Godly Christian athletic leaders, who embrace the sovereignty of God, grow in their relationship with Christ and serve others.
Open Fire is a student organized chapel for all TWU CIS and club athletes. Open Fire is currently in its second year of operation, with leaders including Nathan Square-briggs and Kassie Plummer. The purpose of Open Fire is to see athletes grow and mature in Christ. Open Fire strives to show athletes how God's kingdom stretches to every area of life, including sport, and how one can practically work out their faith in an intense sporting environment. Mark Washington (above) of the BC Lions is one of a variety if guest speakers Open Fire presents.
Paul and Roslynn Ballard are the coordinator of Sports Ministry programs for both Spartan (C.I.S.) and Titan (club) athletes on campus. Both Spartan and club athletes can commit to becoming sports ministry representatives (SMRs) and minister to their respective teams in various ways, including:
