FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#14)
Women's vball Dinos sweep Battle of Alberta
OTTAWA (CIS) - For the fourth consecutive week, there are no changes at the top of the CIS basketball and volleyball national rankings.
The Simon Fraser Clan (women's basketball), Carleton Ravens (men's basketball), Manitoba Bisons (women's volleyball) and Alberta Golden Bears (men's volleyball) remain atop their respective polls going into the December break.
All CIS rankings will resume on Tuesday, January 8.
Some of the best action of the past weekend saw the Calgary Dinos (8-2) sweep a home doubleheader over archrivals, the Alberta Pandas (7-3) in women's volleyball. The Dinos, who won both duels in five sets, climb up two positions to No. 3 in the coaches poll, while the reigning CIS champion Pandas drop two spots to No. 5.
Top-ranked Manitoba (9-1) enjoyed a break this past week.
In women's basketball, the No. 1 and defending national champion Clan (12-0) remained perfect in conference play with a pair of dominating wins over Thompson Rivers. SFU outscored its BC rival 97-59 and 84-55.
In men's basketball, the five-time CIS champion Ravens (8-0) also remained unbeaten in the regular season but not before being tested on the road by both Brock (5-3) and No. 10 Guelph (6-2). Carleton prevailed 71-68 and 72-64, respectively.
In men's volleyball, the 2006-07 CIS silver medalist Golden Bears (9-1) made quick work of the Manitoba Bisons sweeping a two-game series 3-0 and 3-0.
