SPARTAN SOCCER TEAMS START TRAINING CAMPS THIS WEEK- TWU teams getting ready for 2008 season.

LANGLEY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University soccer programs will begin preparation for the 2008 season this week at TWU's Langley B.C. campus. The Spartan women kicked things this of this past weekend with an inter-squad scrimmage and a teambuilding retreat. Their full camp will begin Monday night and they will be hosting Capilano College for a scrimmage-match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Spartan men will be arriving on Tuesday and start-up training camp later in the afternoon.

The two teams won't have long before testing themselves against top competition. They will be hosting Western Washington University (NCAA Div. II) from Bellingham, Wash. this Friday, Aug. 15. Match time for women is at 5 p.m. while the men have a 7:15 p.m. kickoff.

The men will follow it up with a match against Seattle Pacific University at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Alderson and the TWU men enter the new season looking for their fourth straight Canada West title. The Spartan men have made three straight CIS championship appearances earning CIS bronze in 2005, silver in 2006 and a fifth place finish this past season. In the 2007 season TWU earned their third Canada West league championship, having previously earned titles in 2004 and 2003. The Spartans entered Canada West in 2001.

The Spartan women have a number of new faces in camp this season, fortunately coach Roxburgh will have the luxury of having the entire season to prepare his team for the CIS Championship Tournament, Nov. 6-9 at TWU. As hosts of the 2008 CIS Women's Soccer Championships the Spartans will have an automatic berth and will be making third championship appearance in five years. The TWU women's soccer program won Canada West titles in 2004 and 2006 and the CIS championship in 2004. This past season the Spartans finished the season ranked No. 10 in the CIS. The Spartans entered Canada West and the CIS in 2001.

Trinity Western University, in Langley, B.C. is an independent Christian liberal arts and sciences university enrolling approximately 4000 students. TWU offers undergraduate degrees in 40 major areas of study ranging from biotechnology, education, nursing, theatre and music, to psychology, communications and biblical studies. TWU's 16 graduate degree programs include counseling psychology, business, theology and leadership, and offers interdisciplinary studies in English, philosophy and history. TWU holds Canada Research Chairs in Biblical Studies, Biotechnology and Interpretation, Religion & Culture.
