Prince George, B.C.- For Prince George, there is a new face, but no new party in Ottawa. Bob Zimmer, the Conservative candidate for Prince George- Peace River has been elected. This is a riding which has been traditionally Tory, with Jay Hill holding the post for 18 years. Zimmer just got the nod as the Conservative candidate a couple of weeks before the election was called “It’s a pleasant surprise” says Zimmer “First time out, you just never know if the base of support is there, but the voters gave us a resounding thumbs up.” Zimmer also thanked the other candidates in the race for their tough but good campaigns.

Bob Zimmer, 42, has packed in a lot of living in his life.He's worked in the oil and gas sector, earned his journeyman carpentry ticket, worked as a carpenter, played on a pemier league ruby team in B.C., and been a varsity rugby coach at Trinity Western University where he earned a degree at Trinity Western.

OTTAWA (CIS) – In the final rankings of the 2010 fall semester the top teams remain unchanged with Windsor (women’s basketball), Carleton (men’s basketball), UBC (women’s volleyball) and Laval (men’s volleyball) repeating as No.1’s. The TWU men’s and women’s volleyball teams also remain in the same positions as last week as does the Spartans men’s basketball team.

OTTAWA (CIS) – There are no changes at the top this week in Canadian Interuniversity Sport basketball and volleyball national rankings, with one change for the Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team as they drop one spot to No. 4 after sweeping their weekend series against the University of Winnipeg. On the women’s side the Spartans volleyball team stays strong at No. 2 after their sweep of the Wesmen. In men’s basketball TWU remains at No. 7 after extending their winning streak to eight games after two road wins in Winnipeg against the Wesmen.

OTTAWA (CIS) – In volleyball the Trinity Western University men’s team moves up a spot to No. 3 after a weekend split with former No. 1 Alberta, while the women remain solid at No. 2 after their split with the Alberta Pandas. The Spartans men’s basketball team strengthens their hold on the seventh spot with 275 points. They are a mere eight points behind No. 6 Concordia at 283, and are almost 100 points (93) ahead of No. 8 Windsor, who have 182 points.

In men’s basketball the Spartans move up another spot to No. 7 after a solid two win weekend over Regina, while men’s volleyball remains firm at No. 4.

OTTAWA (CIS) – The Trinity Western University men’s basketball team earns a No. 8 ranking in the inaugural men’s basketball top ten poll announced today by the CIS. The No. 8 position is the highest ranking that the TWU men’s basketball team has achieved since the program entered the CIS in 1999.Their previous best was No. 9 on Feb. 17, 2009.

In post season play, the women’s soccer team competes in the Canada West Final Four in Edmonton. Closer to home, the men’s and women’s volleyball teams both host the Thompson Rivers Wolf Pack for the Spartan home opener. While the Spartans basketball teams travel to Kamloops, B.C. to take on the Wolf Pack.

The CIS basketball top ten will debut next week when the Atlantic, Quebec and Ontario conferences begin conference play.

OTTAWA (CIS) – The Trinity Western University women’s soccer team ended their mini skid this past weekend by scoring six goals to earn a 2-2 tie with Fraser Valley and a 4-0 win over Victoria, but the outcome still resulted in the two time national champion’s dropping a spot to No. 8 in the rankings. The Spartan men had a solid 2-2 tie with now No. 6 British Columbia, but TWU still remains unranked.
