ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TWU GOLF TOURNAMENT CONTINUES TO SET NEW STANDARDS
LANGLEY, British Columbia – On Wednesday, May 11 the TWU WIRELESWAVE Golf Tournament broke the two million dollar mark in total earnings over the history of the university’s annual tournament.
T
he tournament, which was hosted at Westwood Plateau in Coquitlam, B.C., set the new standard when it broke the half million dollar mark for the second consecutive year as the 17th Annual TWU WIRELESSWAVE Golf Tournament netted over $572,000.
Last year the tournament, which raises funds for TWU student-athlete scholarships and scholarship endowments, netted over $455,000. This year’s tournament and banquet included keynote speaker NHL Hall of Fame member Larry Robinson.
"It has been an unbelievable team effort and blessing to see this tournament grow over the last 17 years. We are truly thankful for the many corporate sponsors and donors that make this a continued growing reality. It is a real privilege to be a part of something that directly impacts local university student lives and helps develop our leaders of tomorrow," said Steve Scholz TWU tournament advisor. "We simply could not have done it without the help of our Title Sponsor ‘WIRELESSWAVE', Dave Hartman, who is the Vice President of Glentel Inc. – Operations, Retail Division and many of our major sponsors such as Samsung, Bell, Rogers Wireless, LG Electronics, RIM Blackberry, Gentec, Virgin Mobile, Fido, HP, Acer, Vtech, Bosa Properties Inc. and Nokia."
TWU Spartan Athletics once again blew past their fundraising goal to match or exceed last year’s tournament. Trinity Western has increased the amount it has raised for student scholarships every year since the tournament's inception in 1994. Since1998 the event has seen an increase in the dollars raised from $30,000 to $455,000 in 2010. During this 17 year run the tournament has netted over $2,375,000.
In addition to a round of golf, each golfer went home with more than his or her value for the day including fabulous food and service from Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club, and plenty of contest prizes, registration gifts and hole host gifts supplied by our many generous sponsors. A particular highlight was that each golfer received a GALAXY Tab mobile tablet donated by Samsung Canada.
The tournament also featured a silent auction which included trips to China, Bora Bora and Pebble Beach golf course, an autographed team Canada jerseys signed by Sidney Crosby, and signed jersey’s from Roberto Luongo, Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Alex Burrows, Phil Kessel and Derek Jeter as well as numerous electronic items.
As official members of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), the Spartans compete in 12 sports in the Canada West division of the CIS: women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, cross-country and track and field.
