Women's Soccer Champs Sign Top Recruit

Langley, British Columbia
– CIS Women’s Soccer National Champion Trinity Western University is pleased to announce the signing of their top recruit for 2005, midfielder Andrea McLachlan.

One of the top BC soccer prospects in the class of 2004, McLachlan hails from Maple Ridge where she will graduate from Thomas Haney Secondary in June. She comes to TWU with an impressive soccer resume, having played at the highest levels provincially and nationally for several years already.

McLachlan has been identified as a National Training Centre player with the Canadian Soccer Association over the past few years, and has been a part of the U16 and U17 National Team training camps. In addition she has been a regular with the BC Provincial program over the past few years. She played club soccer in the Women’s Metro League with one of the top teams, UBC Alumni Sportstown, since she was 16 years old, and most recently played for the Fraser Valley Action (Pacific Coast Soccer League) this past summer, helping them secure the top Canadian spot in the league for 2004. In addition, McLachlan has been invited to the Vancouver Whitecaps training camps the past two seasons.

Prior to playing senior women’s soccer at the top level, she was a member of the Burnaby Jazz Metro team. She has been both a Coastal Cup winner and a Provincial champion three times, at the U14, U15 and U16 levels, as well as winning a bronze medal with the Jazz at the U16 Nationals in 2003. This past year with the UBC alumni, she finished runner up in the women’s provincial cup.

Currently, McLachlan is recovering well from a knee injury that has sidelined her for the fall part of the 2004-05 season.

Commented an excited Coach Graham Roxburgh, "Andrea is a terrific signing for us as a team, as well as for the program’s future and indeed for the Athletic Department here at TWU. She will be an impact player, and more importantly, is a special person who will represent TWU and the Complete Champion Approach very well. She possesses the attacking creativity and understanding that will fit in so well with our team, as well as enhance the talent that we already have. Andrea is technically strong, has a great mind for the game and the ability to create goals both for herself and teammates. I also believe that Andrea will make a significant impact on who we are as a team off the field, as I have been impressed by her character and personality."

"She is a versatile player in that she can play in a few midfield roles, either in a wide position or more central. She also has the ability to link well with our strikers, so we may see her playing up front from time to time. She has played at a very high level and been exposed to the upper echelon of women’s soccer in Canada and this will only help her have a wonderful career at the university level."
