2012 CANADIAN OLYMPIC TRIALS

DESJARLAIS WRAPS UP OLYMPIC TRIALS WITH 1500M SWIM
MONTREAL, Quebec – Trinity Western swimmer Christian Desjarlais swam in his fourth and final race at the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials Saturday as he finished 47th out of 58 swimmers in the 1500m freestyle with a time of 16:41.49 in Montreal’s Olympic Pool.
Desjarlais finished 1:16.91 behind winner Arturo Perez Vertti Ferrer in a field that included Canadian record holder and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in the 1500m freestyle Ryan Cochrane.
Earlier this week at the Olympic Trials, Desjarlais finished 131st in a field of 156 in the 100m freestyle with a time of 55.01, 57th out of 95 swimmers in the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:08.27 and 79th out of 127 swimmers in the 200m freestyle with a time of 1:57.18.

Desjarlais was part of the Spartans first ever contingent to compete at the CIS national championships, doing so earlier this year from Feb. 23 to 25 in Montreal.
His best finish at nationals, in terms of placement, came in the 1500m freestyle event where he finished 17th in a Spartans record time of 16:08.71. His other results at the CIS championships included a 21st place finish in the 400m free with a time of 4:00.67, a 24th place finish in the 200m back with a time of 2:06.65 and a 47th place finish in the 100m free in a Spartans record time of 52.89.
