Stuart Finishes Home Career
TWU's Taylor Stuart claims three more school records in final home game of career.
LANGLEY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western University women's basketball team played a solid game in their 72-59 loss to the University of British Columbia Saturday night at TWU. But playoff positioning already established the night was about honouring Taylor Stuart, who was playing in her final home game of her five year career.
Stuart finished the night with 17 points on 7-18 shooting from the field. Her final game stats enabled her to claim three more TWU records; field goals made in a season with 125, field goals made in a career with 431 and steals in a season with 43. Stuart now holds 28 TWU records.
The Spartans had a solid start and trailed the T-Birds 20-17 with just under eight minutes to go in the half. UBC finished the half with a 21-7 run to end the half up 38-24.
TWU came out flying to start the second half and used a 10-2 run to cut the UBC lead to six points, 40-34. It was as close as TWU would get as UBC gradually pulled away to take the game 72-59.
In addition to Stuart, Lauren Doubroff with 14 points and four rebounds led the Spartans, while Kelsey Blair with 21 points and 12 rebounds and Julie Little with 20 points and eight rebounds led the Thunderbirds.
TWU now heads to Burnaby Mountain to open the post season against the Simon Fraser University Clan. Game days are Fri-Sun, Feb 17-19. Game times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. if necessary on Sunday.
