REIMER LEADS SPARTANS TO WIN
TWU rookie paces Spartans to victory over Queens Golden Gaels

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– Trinity Western University rookie Corina Reimer (Abbotsford) had the game of her young career Saturday afternoon against Queens University. The 6’2” forward hit for 16 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Spartans defeated the visiting Golden Gaels 67-55 at TWU’s Langley campus.

The win leaves the Spartans at 3-1 as they finish the preseason. The loss drops the Golden Gaels to 2-3.

The two teams played even for the first ten minutes, with the Spartans holding a slight 15-14 lead at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter remained even until the final four minutes. TWU led 23-20, but finished with a 10-7 run to take a 33-27 lead into the break.

Reimer took over in the third quarter. She scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half by going six for six from the field on a variety of inside moves. The Spartans kept building on their six point half time lead and closed out the third quarter with a 48-37 lead.

The Spartans extended their lead to 13 points, 50-37 to start the fourth quarter. Queens rallied slightly, but the Golden Gaels were not able to mount any charge as the Spartans closed out the preseason with the solid win.

Teddi Firmi (Kitchener, Ont.) led the Golden Gaels with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Laura Craig (Delta) added 12 points and five rebounds to the Spartans cause.

Next up for the Spartans is their Canada West conference opener Friday evening against the University of British Columbia. Game time at TWU is set for 6:00 p.m.

Game Notes: The Spartans forced the Golden Gaels into 43 turnovers, while TWU committed 25 ...the second half shooting percentage were the difference in the game. TWU finished the half at 44% (12-27), while Queens finished at 25% (8-32)...TWU defeated Queens earlier this season 56-46 at Waterloo's Naismith Tournament...
