Trauter Goal Tops Pronghorns
TWU captain scorers in 85th minute for 1-0 win

LETHBRIDGE, Alberta - Trinity Western University midfielder Angela Trauter (5th yr, Langley, BC) scored with less than six minutes remaining to give the fifth ranked Spartans a 1-0 win over the University of Lethbridge Saturday afternoon in Lethbridge, Alberta.

"I was pleased with the desire and effort that we had today," said TWU Head Graham Roxburgh. "However, our execution was not there, which made the game harder for us. But we won ugly, and sometimes you need to learn how to win those games."

The Spartans had a number of opportunities throughout the match, but they were unable to a ball into the back of the Pronghorn net until Trauter’s marker.

Trauter's goal came after a TWU corner, which the Lethbridge defenders failed to clear out of harms way. Trauter got a foot on the loose ball and sent it into the top of the net to give the Spartans their third win of season (3-2-1). The loss drops the Pronghorns to 2-2-2.

Keeper Ali Penner (1st yr, Abbotsford, BC) went the distance for the Spartans to record her 4th shut-out of the season, while Lethbridge keeper Megan Lumley took the loss.

Next up for the Spartans is at the University of Calgary on Sunday, October 02, 2005. Match time is set for noon at the U of C.

Match Notes: The match was delayed for 30 minutes when Lethbridge lost their captain in the fourth minute with an apparent broken leg...
