TWU tops visiting Regina 9-0

LANGLEY, British Columbia -
On a perfect day for soccer the Trinity Western University women's soccer team gave the visiting University of Regina more then they could handle as the Spartans dominated the Cougars 9-0 Saturday afternoon at TWU’s Langley, BC campus.

"It was good to get lots of people some time and it was nice to get back in the flow," said TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh. "I was particularity pleased with the play of Rebecca Richardson and Melanie Ingwersen."

The Spartans scored five first half goals and four in the second as they outshot the Cougars 30-0.

Alexis Heinz (5th yr, Surrey, BC) led the way for the Spartans with three goals - 62nd minute, 78th minute and 90th minute, with teammate Angela Trauter (5th yr, Langley, BC) in the 16th minute and 18th minute, and Dana DuMerton (1st yr, Abbotsford, BC) in the 30th minute and the 80th minute adding two more apiece.

The two other TWU goals were scored by forward Melanie Ingwersen (1st yr, Abbotsford, BC) in the 2nd minute, and midfielder Lindsay Rohla (3rd yr, Langley, BC) on a penalty kick in the 24th minute.

TWU keepers Ali Penner (1st yr, Abbotsford, BC) and Stephanie Geisler (2nd yr, Langley, BC) split the goaltending duties for the Spartans, while Amanda Stith (Regina, SK) made 13 saves and played the full 90 for the Cougars.

Next up for the Spartans is a three game swing through the prairies. TWU will be playing at Alberta on Oct. 22, at Saskatchewan on Oct. 23 and at Regina on Oct. 25.

Match notes: the nine goals is the most ever by a TWU women's soccer team in CIS competition...the previous high was seven on Oct. 27, 01 against Lethbridge...the 30 shots are also a school record (27, Regina, Oct. 4,03)...
