Trinity Western freshman Nikki Wright is making an early statement for Rookie of the Year honours. The Cloverdale, B.C. native had a great home opening weekend for the Spartans, following up her first goal of the year in a 1-1 tie with No. 4 UBC (2-0-2) on Thursday with two goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Spartans to a 2-1 victory over the visiting No. 7-ranked Victoria Vikes (2-2-0).
Wright, one of the most coveted recruits in the league who played with the Whitecaps Reserve squad last year, currently sits second in Canada West in goals per game at 1.00 and is tied for second in total goals with three.
The Human Kinetics major also sits third in Canada West in game-winning goals and fifth in points-per-game.
The 1-0-1 weekend keeps the Spartans unbeaten (1-0-2) on the season. TWU will now host UFV (0-2-1) on Saturday evening at TWU.
