Female: Daniela Gerig, Trinity Western (soccer)
Trinity Western's Daniela Gerig scored two goals and was named CIS tournament MVP as she led her team to three straight wins and helped to lead the Trinity Western University Spartans to their second CIS national championship (04) in five years.
The Fort Langley, B.C. native had two goals in the Spartans 3-0 quarter final win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk, added six shots and a goal in the 1-0 PK (6-5) shootout win over the Canada West champion Vikes, and was a constant threat in the Spartans championship 1-0 win over the Brock Badgers in Sunday's gold medal match.
The second-year forward's two goals gives her 14 on the season which ties her with Spartan alum Carlee O'Brien ('08) for the TWU single season goal scoring record. A Human Kinetics major, Gerig finished the Canada West conference play tied for second in goals scored with nine and third in goals per game at 0.64.
TWU, who had an automatic bid into this year's Nationals, earned its way into the year end tournament by finishing second to CW host Victoria at the Canada West championship.
It is the second time this season that Gerig has recieved the Canada West award.
