CALGARY'S COLLEEN WEBBER JOINS CIS CHAMPIONS

LANGLEY, British Columbia - The CIS women's soccer champion Trinity Western University women's soccer program and head coach Graham Roxburgh are pleased to announce the commitment of defender Colleen Webber to play for the Spartans beginning in the 2009 season.

"We are so excited about Colleen joining our program. She is a great person who will contribute to our success both on and off the field," commented Roxburgh. "She is a very smart defender, reads the game well and is technically very sound and is the type of player that we want to come and give us composure and distribution out of the back. Her great success with winning provincials and nationals at the club level will also aid in helping her to come into our program and bring a winning mentality."

The Calgary native has been a standout defender for Calgary Foothills Colts and the Alberta Provincial teams where she has won six Alberta gold medals and two national championships. She won national championships with her U-16 and U-18 teams and earned a bronze medal at the U-14 nationals with the Calgary Southwest United Spirit. She also captained the Alberta U-13 team to a bronze medal at the Rocky Mountain Cup and the U-14 all-stars to a fourth place finish at Canadian Championships.

Webber, who plans to study science at TWU, was selected to the National Training Centre when she was 12 year old and has been part of the NTC for the last four years. She was also named MVP defender at the North Carolina Soccer camp in 2005.

"I chose to attend TWU because I because I enjoy the close knit community feeling," commented Webber. "I am looking forward to outdoor soccer year round!"

The 5'6" defender will graduate from Western Canada High School after being involved in their Immersion program from Kindergarten through grade 12.

Since entering the CIS in 2002 the Spartans women's soccer program has rapidly become one of the premier programs in the CIS. They have won two national championships, in 2008 and 2004, and two Canada West championships, in 2006 and 2004, and have been in the national championship three of the last five years where they have accumulated a 7-1-1 record.
