SPARTANS SOCCER PLAYERS EARN GOLD AT GAMES

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I.
– Trinity Western University women’s soccer players Tessa Meyer (Surrey, B.C.),Natalie Boyd (Surrey, B.C.) and Alicia Tesan (Vancouver) helped Team BC earn a gold medal this past weekend at the Canada Summer Games in Summerville, P.E.I.

Team BC earned the gold medal with a 1-0 win over Quebec Saturday afternoon at the Eric Johnston Field at Credit Union Place in Summerside, P.E.I. BC earned their way to the final with a 3-2 win over Ontario.  In the quarter finals BC defeated Manitoba 2-0.

Team BC advanced out of pool play with a 4-1 win over New Brunswick and a 1-0 win over Nova Scotia.

Meyer is a returning midfielder who was a member of the Spartans 2008 CIS Championship team, while Boyd and Tesan are rookies who will suit up for the Spartans this next week when they rejoin the team after TWU’s California tour.

The Spartans are on the road in California for a three match swing against Hope International on Aug. 25, Westmont College on Aug. 27 and University of the Redlands on Aug. 30.

Trinity Western opens their Canada West conference play with three straight road games. They play Saskatchewan on Sept. 12, Alberta on Sept. 13 and British Columbia on Sept. 19. TWU’s home opener will be on Sept. 26 against British Columbia.

Since entering the CIS in 2002 the Spartans women's soccer program has rapidly become one of the premier programs in the CIS. They have won two national championships, in 2008 and 2004, and two Canada West championships, in 2006 and 2004, and have been in the national championship three of the last five years where they have accumulated a 7-1-1 record.
