WRIGHT NAMED CANADA WEST FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

EDMONTON
– Trinity Western Canada West First Team All-Star Nikki Wright (Cloverdale, B.C.) helped lead the Spartans to their third conference title by scoring three goals and adding an assist in the Spartans two victories at the Final Four this past weekend at TWU in Langley, B.C.

The second-year forward scored two goals and assisted on the game winner to give the Spartans a 3-2 overtime victory over the Alberta Pandas in Friday’s semifinal match. The victory gave the defending CIS champion Spartans a return trip to this year’s championship in Toronto.

The 2008 Canada West Player of the Year followed it up with one of the best games of her career as she scored the lone goal of the match to give No. 2 Trinity Western a 1-0 win over No. 9 UBC. The win gives the Spartans the Canada West championship and the No. 1 seed out of West at this year’s CIS championship.

The three goals give’s Wright 13 overall goals on the season ties her single season best and puts her within one goal of the TWU single season goal scoring record. The Canada West title is the Spartans third in six years (2004, 2006, 2009) and will now head out to Toronto, where they will hope to repeat as CIS champions.
