JENNA DI NUNZIO SIGNS WITH SPARTANS
LANGLEY, B.C. – The two time defending CIS women’s soccer champion Spartans just got a little richer as head coach Graham Roxburgh announced today that Vancouver Whitecaps Residency and Team BC gold medal team member Jenna Di Nunzio has signed with Trinity Western University. The talented midfielder will begin her career with the Spartans beginning in the fall of 2010.
“In Jenna, we are adding another outstanding person and player to our program, which is very exciting for our program,” commented TWU’ Roxburgh. “I have been impressed not only in Jenna’s ability but in who she is off the field. We know Jenna will add to a group of players that are striving for success in all facets of life. We are delighted she is coming to TWU.”
In addition to her play with this summer’s Team BC and the Whitecaps Residency program the Burnsview Secondary student has also played with Team BC since the U12 team, the Surrey Breakers Nitro Elite Club and has participated in Canada’s national team camp.
“Jenna possesses fantastic attacking skills, has demonstrated that she can perform at the highest level and will bring a versatility that will make our squads attacking options that much stronger,” commented Roxburgh on what the talented Di Nunzio will bring to the Spartans. “Jenna is quick and creative player who has the vision to find players at the right time and that makes her a very dangerous player.”
The 5’5” North Delta, B.C. native who will be joining fellow Team BC and current Spartans Tessa Meyer, Alicia Tesan and Natalie Boyd in the Spartan line-up next season commented on her becoming a member of the Spartans.
“I believe that I was meant to go to TWU from the start. Not only do they have some of the best athletic teams in the country, but the people that are a part of this school are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. I look forward to spending the next five years of my life playing for the Trinity Western Spartans, and hopefully achieve as much success as the players have in the past two years.”
Di Nunzio, who has won numerous athletic and academic awards, lists her gold medal triumph with Team BC, where she was named a tournament all-star, as the highlight of her short but decorated soccer career.
The Human Kinetics/Business student will join a highly decorated TWU women’s soccer program. Di Nunzio will join a Spartan squad that has earned back-to-back national championships, and currently has two CIS Rookie of the Year award winners, two CIS championship tournament MVP’s, six former Canada West all-stars and five Canadian FISU team members returning to the team for the 2010 season.
