LIVERPOOL RECRUIT SIGNS WITH SPARTANS

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– The reigning two time CIS champion Trinity Western University Spartans have gone over to England to add to their already rich talent pool. Spartans head women’s soccer coach announced today the signing of Liverpool’s Jessica King for the 2010 season.

"I am absolutely thrilled to have Jessica commit to attend and play for TWU. I watched her train and play in the fall and there is no doubt that technically and tactically she can play at a high level,” commented TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. “I am impressed by her soccer intuition and obviously she has been immersed in a top notch soccer culture for many years, which will add great depth and options to our squad in the coming years.”

Liverpool Ladies FC currently leads the English Premier League with 43 points. At 17 years of age King, who plans to study political science at TWU, is currently one of the youngest players on Liverpool, which features players from 16 years of age to 35 years of age.

The 5’7” midfielder, who attends Bellerive FCJ in Liverpool, England commented on her choice to travel overseas to play for the Spartans. “I was made aware of the high academic and soccer standards and after meeting the coach and learning more about Trinity I knew it would be a great place for me to attend university.”

The Liverpool Ladies FC site commented on King. “Versatile Jess can play anywhere along the right-hand side and first started playing football for her local team Formby at the age of 6 years old.
Her hopes for the future include consistent performances at Liverpool and hopefully playing at the highest level possible.”

“Since meeting her in the fall, I have been more and more impressed by what I believe she will bring to our program both on and off the field. Jess is a versatile player that can defend well, and has the ability to attack from wide spaces, as well as has good vision and understanding of the game. Her training and playing with and against some of the top players in England will provide her with experience that will help her quickly adjust to the university level, as well as add to the competitiveness of the training environment. She is a great addition to the program," added Roxburgh.

King  will join a highly decorated TWU women’s soccer program which has earned back-to-back national championships, and currently has two CIS Rookie of the Year award winners, two CIS championship tournament MVP’s, six former Canada West all-stars and five Canadian FISU team members returning to the team for the 2010 season.

King joins fellow 2010 recruiting class member: Jennifer Castillo of the Vancouver Whitecaps reserve team and Jenna Di Nunzio of the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program, who signed with TWU earlier this year.

Trinity Western University, in Langley, B.C., is a provincially chartered, independent Christian liberal arts and sciences university, enrolling approximately 4000 students. TWU offers 42 undergraduate majors, ranging from biotechnology, education, theatre and music, to psychology, communications and biblical studies.
