CHAMPS CONTINUE TO GROW

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– The reigning two time CIS champion Trinity Western University Spartans continue to add to their talent pool with head coach Graham Roxburgh announcing the addition of Becky Schile of Chilliwack, B.C. and the Sarah Hannigan of Anmore, B.C.

“I am really pleased with the direction our squad is going and I believe in adding both Becky and Sarah we are adding more youth to a maturing roster and more competitiveness to the team. They are both players that I feel will compete for playing time as well as provide different options for us in regards to their versatility,” commented Roxburgh. “I have been impressed with them both while watching them on the field and with the interactions that we have had. They are both players that will bring hunger and athleticism to the squad as well as being great representatives of our program for years to come.”

Becky Schile

Schile, a 5-foot-9 striker, has earned numerous awards while playing for her Chilliwack Senior Secondary and Chilliwack Football Club teams. Over the past five seasons she has earned five most valuable player awards, five most sportsmanlike awards and five most dedicated awards.

“I am excited that Becky has chosen to attend TWU and be a part of our women's soccer program. I have been more and more impressed with her ability and character over the last few years and believe she is going to be an important player for us in the coming years. She possesses skill, strength and the ability to score goals and will provide attacking options for us going forward,” said Roxburgh. “She has a very good left foot and I believe that she can play a versatile role for the Spartans as she makes the jump from club soccer to the CIS. Having coached her and watched her play for the past few years, I know she is the type of person who will add to the culture that we have created here at TWU.”

The native of Chilliwack, B.C. and future TWU general studies student commented on joining the back-to-back CIS champion Spartans. “I chose to pursue Trinity Western because I have a passion for soccer and TWU has the number one university soccer program in Canada. I have been coached by head coach Graham Roxburgh and past alumni for the past four years and I respect their values, not only around soccer but throughout their lives. I want to be a part of a supportive, caring, learning environment.”

 Sarah Hannigan

Hannigan, a 5-foot-5 midfielder, will look to bring her championship tournament experience with her as she joins the Spartans for the 2010 season.

"Sarah is a great addition to our program because of her technical ability and her desire to compete at the next level. I am continually impressed with her character and soccer intuition and believe that she has the ability to come in and make an impact in our squad both this coming year and in the years to come,” said Roxburgh. “Sarah's commitment to hard work, her competitiveness and versatility fit into the type of player and person that we are looking for at TWU. She has the potential to go on and become a very strong CIS player in the future and the more I get to know her, the more I am delighted that she is going to be a part of our program. "

The Anmore, B.C. native and member of the Coquitlam Silence Metro team and Archbishop Carney squad has gained valuable experience as a member of the 2010 Coastal Cup Champion squad and the Carney team that earned a bronze medal at the BC high school provincial championships in 2009 and silver at the BC Catholic School championship in 2009 and 2010. She was also a player with the 2009 Super-Y Olympic Development Program National Select team.

A “Principal’s List” honours student at Archbishop Carney, who plans to study Human Kinetics at TWU, commented on her becoming a Spartan. “TWU holds a reputation for academic excellence and offers a distinctive community environment where I can excel both on and off the field. The team is composed of outstanding individuals and its two consecutive national championships speak for themselves. I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Spartans this fall.”

Schile and Hannigan  will join a highly decorated TWU women’s soccer program which has earned back-to-back national championships, and currently has two CIS Rookie of the Year award winners, two CIS championship tournament MVP’s, six former Canada West all-stars and five Canadian FISU team members returning to the team for the 2010 season.

The two new Spartans joins fellow 2010 recruiting class members: Jessica Kin of the Liverpool Ladies FC, Jennifer Castillo of the Vancouver Whitecaps reserve team and Jenna Di Nunzio of the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program, who signed with TWU earlier this year.
