Spartan and Dinos Draw
TWU finishes prairie road trip 1-1-1

CALGARY, Alberta - The University of Calgary Dinos (2W-2L-3T) and the fifth-ranked TWU Spartans (3-2-2) played to a 0-0 draw at Calgary's West Campus Varsity Soccer pitch on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Calgary.

"We played very well, had some very good chances," said TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. "But they are a solid defensive team and their keeper played well for them."

The Dinos, who have yet to score at home this season, also managed to hold TWU without a goal despite the visiting team's strong play in the midfield. Although both teams created a couple of chances, both Ali Penner (TWU) and Taryn Swiatek (CGY) had easy games needing to only make a couple of saves apiece during the match.

Calgary's best chance to score came in the 70th minute when the Dinos were awarded an indirect free kick on the edge of the box after Penner handled the ball outside the area but Calgary's Jessica Horning was unable to find a teammate on the back post and TWU cleared with ease.

For the Spartans, they almost scored just seconds before the final whistle but Angela Trauter's (5th yr, midfield, Langley, BC) shot from the top of the area sailed over the bar.

Next up for the Spartans is at the University of Victoria on Friday, October 7. Match time on the Island is scheduled for 6 pm.
