Game Recap

The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds needed 105 minutes to claim third place in the Canada West Conference Women’s Soccer Championships with a spirited 3-2 win against the Trinity Western Spartans on a snowy morning in Calgary.

Janine Kerr got the first goal for UBC in the 14^th minute, converting a Chelsea Hampton pass to give her squad a 1-0 lead. TWU’s Angela Trauter answered back on the 30^th minute mark slotting in an Andrea McLachlan pass, to tie the game 1-1 before halftime.

In the second half, Maja Sigmund got the UBC back in front in the 65^th minute but just eight minutes later Trinity’s Hilary Braacx put in a Ashlee Davison pass in the 73^rd minute.

With the game in extra time, UBC’s Stephanie Shwetz scored in the 104^th minute, just a minute before time was called in the abbreviated extra time period. Shwetz’s goal saved the game from penalty kicks and ended the contest 3-2.
