Spartans Blank Pronghorns
TWU extends streak to three wins with 6-0 victory over Lethbridge.

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– The Trinity Western University women’s soccer team had five different players find the back of the University of Lethbridge net Friday night at TWU’s Spartan Field. The five goals plus a Lethbridge own-goal gave the 3-0-0 Spartans a 6-0 win over the 0-3-0 Pronghorns.

The Spartans dominated the play and never allowed the Pronghorns to get on track. TWU finished the match out-shooting Lethbridge 24 to 6. Despite giving up six goals, Lethbridge’s keeper Megan Lumley (Lethbridge) had a great game as she recorded nine saves, which included three break-away opportunities by TWU.

The Spartans opened the scoring on an “own-goal” in the 10th minute. TWU’s Hilary Braacx (2nd year, forward, Burnaby) made it 2-0 in three minutes later. Carlee O’Brien (4th year, forward, Nanaimo) got here third goal of the season to make it 3-0 in the 30th minute. Lindsay Rohla (4th year, midfield, Langley) finished of the scoring in the first half with the Spartans fourth goal in the 43rd minute.

Up 4-0 at the half, TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh made a number of substitutions. But the changes did not slow the level to which TWU controlled the match. Spartans’ rookie Kelli Anne McCabe (forward, Tswassen) got her first goal of the season in the 76th minute as did fellow rookie Chantel Esperanza (midfield, Surrey) when she finished the scoring in the 86th minute.

TWU now hosts the 5th ranked University of Calgary (2-1) tomorrow night at TWU. Match time between the two squads is set for 5 pm.

Match Notes: TWU keeper Nicole Turner (1st year, Langley) played the full 90 minutes to record her second straight shutout... the Spartans have now gone 235 minutes with out giving up a goal...TWU’s Lindsay Rohla (4th year, midfield, Langley) was named the Spartans Player of the Match, while Sheena Stasiuk earned the honours for the Pronghorns...
