SPARTANS MOVE TO 3-0 WITH WIN
-TWU blanks Regina to remain undefeated.
LANGLEY, British Columbia – Canada West Athlete of the Week
Carlee O’Brien (5th year, forward, Nanaimo, B.C.) scored twice and added an assist in the first half to lead the fourth ranked Trinity Western University women’s soccer team to a 5-0 win over the visiting University of Regina Cougars Friday night at TWU’s Langley, B.C. campus.
The win gives the Spartans a three game winning streak (3-0-0), while the loss keeps the Cougars winless in Canada West (0-3-0).
TWU’s
Rebecca Ferguson (2nd year, forward, Calgary) opened the scoring in the 7th minute with her first goal of the season when she finished off a cross from O’Brien. The Spartans made it 3-0 on back-to-back goals by O’Brien over a three minute stretch. O’Brien made it 2-0 on a breakaway in the 35th minute and then made it 3-0 in the 38th minute.

Brittany Heinrich (5th year, defender, Kelowna, B.C.) made it 4-0 in the 51st minute with her first goal of the season. TWU rookie forward
Daniela Gerig (Langley, B.C.) made the final 5-0 in the 76th minute with her 2nd goal of the season.
Regina’s Michelle Anderson (Regina) had the Cougars best scoring chance in the 63rd minute when she got some space down the right side and sent a hard shot towards the TWU net. The Spartans keeper
Veronika Rogina (Surrey, B.C.) was there to make the save and keep the Cougars of the score sheet.
Rogina made two saves to earn the shut-out win for the Spartans while Regina’s Alyssa McLaughlin (Regina) made seven saves in the loss.
Next up for the Spartans is the University of Manitoba Bisons. Match time on Saturday afternoon is set for 5 p.m. at TWU. Next up for the Cougars is at the University College of the Fraser Valley on Saturday. Match time is at 1 p.m. at Bateman Field in Abbotsford, B.C.
