FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SPARTANS DRAW IN FINAL MATCH OF SPRING
SEATTLE - The 2008 CIS champion Trinity Western University women‘s soccer team tied the 2008 NCAA Div. II champion Seattle Pacific University Falcons 1-1 in the Spartans final match of the spring Saturday afternoon in Seattle.
"We were sluggish and Seattle was energetic as they were starting their spring season and we were ending ours," commented TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. "We had some chances late to pull out the victory, but were unable to convert."
TWU all-Canadian forward Nikki Wright (Surrey, B.C.) scored the final goal of the season for the Spartans with 10 minutes left in the match to allow Trinity Western to earn the tie after the Falcons had opened the scoring in the 55th minute of the match.
TWU keeper Veronika Rogina (Surrey, B.C.) was solid for the Spartans in earning the tie. "Veronika kept us in the game in the early going and we were fortunate to come away with the tie," commented Roxburgh.
Today's match concludes the 2009 spring season for the Spartans. They will return to action next August as they prepare to defend their CIS championship.
