FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SPARTANS BLANK PANDAS IN FRIENDLY SPRING MATCH
LANGLEY, British Columbia –The Trinity Western University women’s soccer team made it four straight wins over the University of Alberta Pandas this season with Thursday night’s 4-0 win at TWU’s Spartan Field in Langley, B.C.
“Tonight we had two good teams who are getting used to playing outdoors again after a lengthy layoff,” commented TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. “We all played hard and quickly with tired legs coming into the play in the second half. But overall I was pleased with our corporate effort and that everyone got some minutes against a worthy opponent.”
The two time defending CIS champion Spartans jumped out to the four nil lead at the end of 45 minutes, which held up for the duration of the match. Scoring for TWU were Daniella Gerig with two goals, Alexi Foster and Alicea Tesan.
“Daniela was by far the player of the game,” added Roxburgh. “She was excellent and showed what a tremendous force she can be when she plays with strength, control and power.”
Veronika Rogina earned the shutout for the Spartans.
Next home match for the Spartans is on Friday, March 19 when they will host the University of the Fraser Valley. Match time at TWU for the friendly is set for 7 p.m.
