VIA Rail female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 8, 2006. Schaufele represents the first TWU Spartan to receive a CIS athlete of the week honour.
Schaufele, a fourth-year human kinetics student from Vancouver excelled both on offence and defence this weekend as she amassed 16 kills and 15 digs to lead the Spartans to a pair of upset wins over the Alberta Pandas, ranked second in the country entering the contests. With the victories, TWU moved into a tie for first place in the overall Canada West standings, and improved to seventh in the CIS Top 10.

Vancouver, B.C.Left-side hitter Jodi Schaufele was all over the volleyball court this weekend as she excelled both on offence and defence to lead the Spartans to a pair of upset wins over perennial powerhouse Alberta (9-3), ranked second in the country entering the contests. TWU edged the Pandas 3-2 on Friday, and added a 3-0 sweep of the multiple CIS champions on Saturday.
Schaufele, a fourth-year attacker from Vancouver, finished the weekend with 16 kills and 15 digs. She had nine kills, seven digs, three aces and four blocks in Friday’s five-set thriller, including a key block late in the final set won 15-11 by the Spartans, and followed up with a seven-kill, eight-dig, three-block effort on Saturday.
With the victories, the Spartans (10-2) moved into a tie for first place in the overall Canada West standings with the Calgary Dinos, and hold a two-point lead over UBC (9-1) in the Pacific division. Trinity Western also moved up to seventh place in the new Top 10.
