UBC, which lost the national final by 3-0 to Sherbrooke a year ago in Saskatoon, posted a 19-1 record in the regular season before adding four more wins in the playoffs to capture the Canada West title. The ‘Birds will face the AUS champion Saint Mary’s Huskies on Thursday night at 6 p.m. MT (local) in the opening round of the CIS tournament.

The QSSF champion Laval Rouge et Or, showing an unblemished 34-0 overall record in 2005-06, all against CIS competition, will enter the university nationals as the second-seed. The Rouge et Or will battle the No. 7 Windsor Lancers on opening day.

Both UBC and Laval are looking for their first ever CIS title.

The other quarter-final match-ups will see No. 3 Alberta face-off against No. Montreal, and No. 4 Trinity Western square off against No. 5 Calgary.
