Van Doorn Named to Team Canada
TWU second year middle Dayna Jansen Van Doorn to represent Canada this summer

WINNIPEG, Manitoba– The Trinity Western University women’s volleyball team were pleased to hear the announcement that second year middle Dayna Jansen Van Doorn earned a spot on this year’s Canadian Senior Women’s Volleyball team. The team was selected after an intensive four-day Selection Camp held May 10th -14th in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Athletes selected to Team Canada’s Senior Women’s team are:

Setters: Anne-Marie Lemieux (Sherbrooke, QC), Stephanie Penner (Dauphin, MB), Tiffany Dodds (Lucky Lake, SK), Larissa Cundy (Edmonton, AB)

Outside Hitters: Emily Cordonier (Vancouver, BC), Falin Schaefer (Yellow Grass, SK), Tammy Mahon (Holland, MB), Gina Schmidt (Beaverlodge, AB), Tara Smart (Moosomin, SK), Ashley Voth (Winnipeg, MB)

Middle Blockers: Mélissa Raymond (Sherbrooke, QC), Lies Reimer (Calgary, AB), Stephanie Wheler (Saskatoon, SK), Shelley Chalmers (Burnaby, BC), Tasha Holness (Calgary, AB), Dayna Jansen Van Doorn (Langley, BC), Nadine Alphonse (Montreal, QC)

Libero: Annie Lévesque (Amqui, QC)

Stacy Gordon, who has just returned to Canada from her professional team in Turkey, is also expected to join the team in June.

The team will now prepare for their first major competition of the season, the 2006 Pan American Cup, to be held June 27th to July 8th in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Other competitions include matches versus European Champions, Poland, in Ontario on June 2nd and 4th, and hosting Japan’s Takefuji Bamboo in Manitoba on June 10th, 12th and 13th. The balance of the season sees the team participate in the Amur Cup in Khabarovsk, Russia this August 20th– 27th, a tour in eastern Canada in October, and a stint in Japan in November.
