SPARTANS PREPARING FOR CANADA WEST IN CHINA

BEIJING, China - In the final match of the Trinity Western University women's volleyball team's tour of China the Spartans lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-16) to Tanjin Institute of Technology who are considered to be one of the top team's in top tier's in China.

"It has been a great learning experience to play teams that play a different style of volleyball then what we are accustomed to playing. The past four matches have been excellent for our team's development and preparation for the upcoming semester," said TWU Head Coach Ryan Hofer. "The competition has shown us areas of our where we are performing well and areas where we need to devote more time to."

Liz Spear (Cloverdale, B.C.) with eight kills and Kim Klassen (Abbotsford, B.C.) with six kills led the Spartans.

In addition to their matches the Spartans will be providing Christmas gifts to the students and staff of the Handicapped Children's Center run by the Jian Hua Society- a Christian organization in China. They will also be providing gifts and playing with about 30 deaf children from kindergarten of the Disabled Person's Association, an organization run by the Tianjin government.

The Spartans will spend a few more days in China before heading for home on Dec. 22.

TWU resumes Canada West conference play on January 12-13 when they will travel to Winnipeg for two matches with the No. 1 ranked University of Manitoba.
