JANSEN VAN DOORN AND TEAM CANADA FINISH POOL PLAY IN MEXICO

Tijuana, Mexico - TWU Spartans and team Canada middle blocker Dayna Jansen Van Doorn (Langley, B.C.) and her Canadian teammates are on a hot streak at the Pan American Cup in Mexico. The Canadian Senior team recorded their third straight win on Tuesday night in Tijuana, blanking Peru 3-0. Set scores were 25-20, 25-12, 25-18 in favour of Canada.

Jansen Van Doorn has started in four of the five Canadian matches with her best match occurring on June 2 in a 3-1 win over Puerto Rico where she led the team in blocks with five, added a service ace to go with ten points.

The win over Peru gave Canada a 4-1 record in the preliminary round finishing second in Pool B behind 5-0 Brazil. The Canucks now have a day off on Wednesday and travel to Mexicali where they will face the third placed team of Pool A, Argentina, in the Quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The 7th Annual Pan American Cup is taking place in Mexicali & Tijuana, Mexico from May 30th - June 7th. The tournament features the world's highest ranked women's teams based out of the Caribbean and North, Central and South America. Canada, currently ranked 24th in the world competed in Group B in Tijuana for the preliminary round with Brazil (1st), Cuba (3rd), Peru (13th), Puerto Rico (19th) and Venezuela (28th). USA (4th), Dominican Republic (14th), Mexico (25th), Costa Rica (30th), Argentina (31st) and Trinidad & Tobago (70th) rounded out Group A.

The top three teams from each pool now advance to the playoffs beginning June 5th. The XII Pan American Cup is a qualifier for the 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix with the top three NORCECA teams and the top South American team earning berths into the competition.
