Selected to lead the Men's FISU Games Team as the head coach is Georges Laplante from the University of Montreal. Laplante will be joined by assistant coaches Dan Ota from Dalhousie University and Aaron Schulha from Red Deer College.
The Women's Team will be led by Olivier Trudel from the University of Montreal as head coach, with assistant coaches Ryan Hofer from Trinity Western University, and Joanne Ross from University of British Columbia.
The purpose of the FISU National Team Program is to identify, select and train a group of young athletes who have future Senior National Team potential and offer them the opportunity to train and represent Canada in international competition. This year's teams will be chosen during the Senior National Team Selection Camps in Gatineau from April 30-May 3 (men) and in Winnipeg from May 18-21 (women). Following their respective selection camps, both teams will train through to the end of June when they will then depart for the World Universiade Games in Belgrade, Serbia from July 1-12.
Volleyball Canada would like to congratulate all of these successful coaches. "The CIS represents one of Volleyball Canada's main partners in our athlete development and we are committed to offering our top Canadian coaches with these professional development opportunities," said Julien Boucher, High Performance Director. "We look forward to a successful summer and a continued symbiotic relationship with CIS for years to come."
